Alaska – Junior Iditarod 2012

This week I am in Wasilla, Alaska, in support of Aiyana Ferraro’s bid to race the Junior Iditarod. Aiyana is Doug and Jen Ferraro’s 14-year-old daughter who lives in Victor, Montana. The Ferraros have been great friends of mine for many years; Jen and I met in Missouri in college, and after she married Doug, he and I did a bunch of ski mountaineering in the Bitterroots and the Cascades.

It took us about five full days to drive from Seeley Lake, Montana to Wasilla, via the “World Famous” Alaskan Highway. I am functioning as their handler for this race, and although the work isn’t hard, there is a lot of stuff to learn!!
