Last week I managed to eek out Month 5 of my “Turns All Year” project, that is, skiing EVERY month of the year. I started the project back in October by hiking 12 miles round-trip in Glacier National Park to get a few turns on the Grinnell Glacier with Don Gisselbeck and Jake Kembel. Now that I’m working in Portland and living in Battle Ground, Washington, I’m only 39 miles from Mt. St. Helens (in my opinion one of the best backcountry destinations around). I got off early and headed up to Marble Mountain Sno-Park, where there was NINE FEET of snow at the trailhead! I booked it up the trail in time to get a few turns in before sunset. Another great day in the mountains; I’m planning to head back this weekend for more!!
